The Ontario Power Authority officially launches the Feed-in Tariff Program
(FIT and microFIT)
In May 2009, the Ontario legislature passed The Green Energy and Green Economy Act (GEA). This legislation encourages renewable energy, green jobs and energy conservation and demand management. One important feature of the GEA is the Feed-in Tariff offered to generation projects that utilize renewable fuels such as biomass, biogas, water power, landfill gas, solar PV and wind.
The Ontario Power Authority together with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure worked closely to establish the rules for the Feed-in Tariff Program and now proclaim this component of the GEA in force.
The Ontario Power Authority is responsible for administering the FIT and microFIT programs; and, effective October 1, 2009, applications will be accepted.
Details of the program can be found on this website under "FIT/microFIT" found in our Program section of the Green Room.
